CRU Wine and Spirits Closed Following FBI Visit

Corner liquor store was the target of an FBI investigation on Friday.

CRU Wine and Spirits was closed this week following FBI activity at the Washington Street shop last Friday.

Wednesday morning, a handmade “closed” sign adorned the entrance to the liquor store, and the shelves inside the shop were cleared of merchandise. Calls to the store were not answered.

CRU received a visit from the FBI on the afternoon of Friday, May 27, but the bureau is not releasing any details. Special Agent Greg Comcowich of the FBI’s Boston Division confirmed the activity, but declined to comment further.

“The FBI engaged in court-authorized activity at that location last Friday,” he said over the phone on Thursday.

Comcowich could not comment on whether the store’s closure was related to the FBI investigation.

CRU opened in November of 2008 and offered a wide variety of wines, beer and liquors. The shop also hosted free wine tastings and was an active supporter of the "Yes on 1" initiative to repeal the alcohol tax in Massachusetts.
