Boston Center for the Arts' Director of Programs Leaving

The director of programs at the Boston Center for the Arts was appointed as the marketing, events and cultural affairs director of the City of Hartford Friday by Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra. The appointment comes just a year after Kristina Newman-Scott joined the center’s staff.

In her year tenure, Newman-Scott redesigned campus programs, increased participation by 20 percent and raised the the center’s profile regionally, nationally and internationally.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working for the BCA, and I appreciate having had this wonderful opportunity to work with the staff and artists on campus,” Newman-Scott said. “I now look forward to this new position that brings forth new challenges and adds more diverse experiences to my career.”

Transition

Newman-Scott’s last day will come at the end of February. In the meantime, the associate director of programs, Darren Evans, will serve as the interim director for the department.

“Kristina’s work at the BCA has elevated and expanded the reputation of BCA programs,” said Veronique Le Melle, the BCA’s executive director. “We wish Kristina the best in her new position and are confident that she will do the same for the City of Hartford that she has done for the BCA. We have strong program staff in place to continue her vision.”

The BCA will begin the recruitment process for a replacement director of programs immediately.
