Armed Man Arrested After Allegedly Firing Shots on West Dedham Street

Police took one man into custody shortly after the Friday morning incident. No one was injured.

Police have arrested and charged a man believed to have discharged a high-capacity firearm on West Dedham Street Friday morning.

A police spokesman confirmed that a suspect was arrested within minutes of the incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The suspect, who has not been identified, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and unlawful possession of ammunition.

No one was injured in the incident, despite the fact that the suspect reportedly fired the shot at a group of young people across the street, police said. Witnesses at the scene said the bullet hit a vehicle.

Police closed West Dedham Street to traffic around 12:30 p.m. on Friday while interviewing witnesses, many of whom live in the nearby Villa Victoria housing complex. Several bystanders claimed to have seen the suspect shoot a weapon from a vehicle, however police confirmed that he was on foot when the shots were fired.
