Video: Sox Catcher Saltalamacchia Partners with HomeStart to End Homelessness in Boston

Boston (September 14, 2012) HomeStart, Inc., a leading non-profit organization dedicated to ending and preventing homelessness in Greater Boston, is releasing a new video featuring Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia visiting with a HomeStart client.  Saltalamacchia recently partnered with the organization to help raise awareness around the importance of ending and preventing homelessness.

In the new video, Lindsay Johnson, a Boston resident and father of a young daughter, talks with Saltalamacchia about  hitting economic  difficulties in 2009 when he lost his job due to the recession and how he lost his housing and his car. Lindsay ended up in a homeless shelter before connecting with HomeStart’s housing search services and eventually moving into his own apartment with his 9 year old daughter JaLisa.

Recently, Saltalamacchia visited Lindsay and JaLisa at their new home in the South End to learn about their experience and to discuss his support for the HomeStart organization.

“You can’t predict what is going to happen in the future,” said Saltalamacchia, a father of three young children.   “Throughout his experience, he (Lindsay) stayed strong not only for himself but for his daughter and because it was right thing for his family.”

During the visit, Lindsay said with HomeStart’s help in finding permanent housing, “this is the best case scenario, I am close to my mom, my daughter does not have to switch schools, the community is very nice, and you can raise a child here.”

See the entire video of Saltalamacchia’s visit with Lindsay Johnson here. The video was produced and edited by Fields of Vision of Wellesley, Mass.
