More than 1,000 Youth across Massachusetts Bay Wait for Mentors this Holiday Season

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay (BBBSMB) currently serves more than 1,800 youth in Massachusetts by providing them with caring adult mentors. But with more than 1,000 boys still waiting to be matched with a Big Brother this holiday season, the organization needs help.

Becoming a Big Brother begins by simply starting a new friendship and is as easy as getting together with your Little Brother for a few hours, a couple of times every month. Play catch, watch a basketball game or visit a museum are just a few examples of how Bigs and Littles can spend time together.

The impact those few hours have on a child’s life can be tremendous. According to a study done by Harris Interactive, 77 percent of Littles reported doing better in school because of their Big. 76 percent said their Big helped them learn right from wrong and 90 percent said the relationship with their Big helped them make better choices throughout their childhood.

“We currently have more than 1,800 amazing volunteers who are inspiring youth across Massachusetts Bay to achieve their full potential,” said Wendy Foster, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. “But with over 1,000 boys still waiting to be matched with a Big Brother, we’re asking for more help. Being a mentor to a Little Brother is fun, easy and affordable – and it can change the life of a child forever. In this holiday season, we encourage you to consider becoming a Big Brother today.”

With 100 years of experience fostering professionally supported, one-on-one friendships between young people and adults, BBBSMB is helping to strengthen the communities of Massachusetts Bay by providing youth with invested, caring adult mentors.
