Chef Encourages Elementary School Children to Go on a “Culinary Adventure”
As a way to educate children about nutrition, Chef Kim Reynolds, Whitsons School Nutrition’s Travelling Chef, visits elementary schools in New England inviting children to join her “Culinary Adventure,” kid-friendly food tastings focusing on delicious and innovative fruit and vegetable recipes. This unique nutrition education program was especially designed to introduce K-6 students to new items and flavors and to promote fruits and vegetables in a fun and exciting way.
Last week, the children at Sarah Greenwood and Hale Elementary Schools had the opportunity to go on Chef Kim’s Culinary Adventure and try crispy carroteenie and apple smoothies. During this event, the children were not only encouraged to explore the delicious smoothies, but also taught how fruits and vegetables are “the fuel that our bodies need to run properly”, making it easier for them to relate the concept of nutrition to their everyday life.
Chef Kim’s visits have proven to be wonderful educational events at the schools. Students, as well as teachers, look forward to her visits since Chef Kim not only talks about nutrition, but also makes it fun to eat fruits and vegetables!
